Schools and educators (and perhaps the general public) should rethink the thoughts of a killer. Not to say killing is excusable, but perhaps there are things that people can do to help these students. Thanks to OM for another great article!

You Are All Idiots
Still not an excuse for having bad grammar, but no need for more formal writing!
Four Phases Every Blogger Experiences
A blogger’s life in a nutshell.
Before my first post, I thought writing was all you needed to do to run a blog. Perhaps it is enough to run a blog, but it’s certainly not enough to run a successful blog. If you write more than 2 blog posts you will almost definitely enter phase 1.
Phase 1
It turns out it is no fun writing if there is nobody to read what you are saying. So you work on getting followers. You tell your friends. Some of them start reading your blog. Some of them wish they could have a conversation without you bringing up ‘that damn blog’. And others ask you about it regularly, but never actually read it.
Phase 2
Eventually you run out of friends to promote your blog to and you focus on finding strangers to read your work. Perhaps you start to follow other blogs and find like-minded bloggers. Or…

The Egalitarian Principle.
There is a big problem I have with Feminism. It’s the aim of feminism.
Don’t get me wrong, I am all in favour of equality. In fact, I genuinely believe that if equality was the aim, then feminism would be laudable. Unfortunately, in many many ways, feminism is the antithesis of equality.
Historically society has been rather (or completely) misogynistic. I think it is fair to call that statement a truism. In many parts of the word this is still the case, with women being unable to hold positions of authority, driving licenses and even bank accounts. A situation which most rational people will abhor. However, arguing that in order to redress this historical inequality, we now should be condemning men for the roles their (and women’s) male ancestors played in the subjugation of females is surely as wrong as the historical paradigm.
I hate to be the one to…

Infrared Photography in Yellowstone National Park
By Simon Weir
I started 2014 leading a workshop in Yellowstone National Park for Chris Weston‘s safari company “Magic Is” – I am now working regularly with them as a group leader and instructor.
Yellowstone in winter turned out to be an IR photographers paradise and my IR modified X-E1 with the 14mm did great service as the images below show. This camera blows me away every time I use it and there was a great deal of interest from the 12 photographers in the group – so much so that I ended up doing a full presentation on Infrared photography one evening while we were there. My X-Pro1 and the XF55-200 also did good service as shown in the two bison shots at the bottom of this post.
Also pleased to report that both Fuji cameras worked faultlessly down to temperatures as low as -30C –…

The Entitlement of Opinion
Something to think about..
Right, here I am stating my opinion. In a post about opinions, and how they are really not all that great a thing after all. More than a little hypocritical, I will agree.
I do want to make a general point here about the validity of opinions, but before I do I think I should set out my stall a little more neatly than usual. We are all entitled to our opinions. There, I’ve said it. We are all not only permitted, but within the context of education and society we are actively encouraged to hold opinions on everything from which football team is better to the inherent dangers of vaccination.
Unfortunately I think we go too far in pursuit of freedom of speech however. We seem to have reached the very strange situation where not only is an opinion permissible, but the validity of each and every opinion is…

Learn to Love Your Food
Embrace the delicacies that adorn your plate.
You can quit smoking.
You can quit pharmaceuticals.
You can quit drinking alcohol.
You can quit being a couch potato.
You can quit not running.
You can quit not exercising.
***
Wanna know what you can’t quit?
Eating.
You can’t quit food.
All of the unhealthful habits above, you can quit. In fact, you can quit them cold turkey. Sure, there will be withdrawals and aches and pains, but stay the course and you come out on the other side.
What happens if you quit eating?
You die.
This is one of the reasons so many people have a hard time with their weight. Their addiction is not something that they can just quit, cold turkey or otherwise. Unfortunately, through a chain of events that may or may not be of their own making, poor eating habits have developed and the physiology, chemistry and physical make up of their bodies…

10 Things Not to Say to an Asian
Listen to these wise words!
- Do your parents speak English? No, they kind of wave their arms around and point at things while grunting.
- So do you like eat rice every day? So do you like eat fat every day?
- When did you come to this country? How do you know I wasn’t born here?
- Do you eat Asian food? While assuming we eat every type of Asian food you can think of IS annoying… also asking us obvious questions such as this one is pretty lame as well.
- Is that your dad? (points at random Asian man) No, is that your dad? (points at the first person he sees… man or woman.)
- Do you celebrate Chinese New Year’s? Do I look Chinese? Wait… don’t answer that. I SAID DON’T ANSWER THAT!
- Could you suggest a good Asian restaurant to go to? Sure, try The Drunken Chinese Chopstick Eating Dragon Wonton. I hear it is…
